History of WFP in Ethiopia

WFP started its operations in Ethiopia in 1965. The guiding principle of WFP in Ethiopia is to support government programmes by addressing hunger through direct food assistance where it adds value and support to the government’s capacity. WFP development interventions in the country are relevant to and consistent with the national policies and programmes as well as with the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and UNDAF priorities.
